The "under Rs. 15,000" range is very popular for phones in India and I also think most of the people do not need a phone costing more than that because nowadays companies offer super specs at this price range. If you are looking for the best Android Phone to buy in May 2020, then this article is definitely for you.

Before you start reading the article I want to inform you that this is a long article. If you are looking for only the names of the devices, I have listed them in the beginning. If you want a detailed overview then read the article and I recommend that. Another thing is, you may not agree with my listing order because these are subjective matters, but I can assure you that these are the best phones in this price segment.

Devices that I selected:

  • Realme 6
  • Redmi Note 5 Pro
  • Realme 5 Pro
  • Vivo Z1 Pro
  • Vivo U20

Detailed Overview:

Realme 6:

The first in the list is the Realme 6 and there is a lot of reasons for it.

Performance: The Realme 6 packs the mighty Mediatek Helio G90T which is known for its amazing performance. The octa-core CPU clocked at 2.05 GHz delivers more than enough power for all day to day tasks, combined with  ARM G76 GPU makes it a gaming beast. If you are looking for a gaming phone, then this is definitely the one you should go for.

RAM & STORAGE: The lowest variant, which is priced under Rs. 15000 has 4GB of RAM and 64 GB of internal storage. The Ram is LPDDR4x dual-channel, so you can expect faster app loading. It also has UFS 2.1 storage which is faster than the typical eMMC you will generally get in this price range. If you run low on storage than it features a dedicated microSD card slot, which is expandable up to 256GB.

Power: Realme 6 packs a 4300mAh battery. It may feel a little small as compared to the other phones in the list, but 4300mAh is actually more than enough, especially when you have a 30W Flash Charge support. Sadly the fast charger is not included in the box and you will need to buy it separately. It also has a type-C port for power delivery and data sharing.

Display: Display is an area where Realme 6 shines again. It features a 90Hz ultra-smooth display. Its the only phone which offers a high refresh rate display at this price segment. Other than the refresh rate, the screen is a 6.5-inch FHD+ display having a resolution of 2400x1080. It has a 90.5% screen to body ratio and is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 3.

Camera: Everyone loves the camera right. Well, Realme 6 has a quad-camera module attached to it as well. It has a  Samsung GW1 64MP sensor with f/1.8 aperture as the primary rear camera. This camera produces really nice detailed images and the 64 MP helps in night time photography as well. Even though we would have liked a Sony sensor, but that's what you get. The next rear camera is the 8MP Ultra wide-angle lens and a 2MP Macro lens with a 4cm focal length. At last there is that 2MP depth sensor which helps you to get those beautiful bokeh effects. For the front, there is a 16MP sensor with an aperture of f/2.0 punch hole selfie camera.

Video: The rear cameras of Realme 6 supports 4K @ 30fps; 1080p @ 30fps and 60fps; 720p @ 30fps and 60fps. It does support slow-motion up to 240fps. For the front camera, it records videos at 1080p @ 30fps, 720p @ 30fps. The selfie camera supports slo-mo up to 120fps. The phone has UIS for stabilization but the output is not that great. So in video front, the camera struggles a little.

Verdict: The Realme 6 Pro is a very powerful phone, from the performance to the camera, everything feels good about this device. So if you have the budget, you should definitely go for it and Gamers, it's the best under Rs. 15000.

Redmi Note 9 Pro:

The next in the line is the new arrival to the Note family, the Redmi Note 9 Pro.

Performance: The Redmi 9 Pro offers the powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 720G processor and it will smoothly handle whatever you throw at it. The CPU which is clocked at 2.3GHz can handle all your tasks easily. The Adreno A618 GPU on the other hand, will handle your graphics-intensive tasks like a pro.

RAM & Storage: The lowest variant offers 4GB RAM and 64Gb internal storage. Like the Realme 6, it also has the LPDDR4x RAM and UFS 2.1 storage, which is great at this price. Thankfully Redmi has included a dedicated microSD card slot, which is expandable up to 512GB.

Power: Redmi Note 9 Pro has a huge 5020mAh battery which supports 18W fast charging. The fast charger is included in the box, so you don't need to buy it separately. There is a USB Type-C port for power delivery.

Display: It features a 6.67 inch FHD+ Dot display(punch-hole) which has resolution of 2400x1080. The highest brightness of the screen is 450nits and it is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 5. The display has a Anti-oil and anti-fingerprint coating as well.

Camera: Redmi Note 9 Pro has a quad-camera array in the rear. The primary camera is of a 48MP GM2 sensor from Samsung. It has an aperture of f/1.79. It delivers crispy images. There is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 5MP micro camera having a 2cm focus distance. Then there is the 2MP depth sensor for portrait shots. In the front, it has a 16MP punch hole camera that sits in the middle of the screen.

Video: The primary rear camera supports 4K @ 30fps; 1080p @ 30 & 60fps; 720p @ 30fps. The wide angle camera supports 1080p @ 30fps; 720p @ 30fps. It also supports slow motion video recording upto 120fps for 1080p and upto 960fps for 720p. Built in EIS helps stabilizing the videos and produces good results. The front camera supports 1080p & 720p @ 30fps and Slo-mo upto 120fps.

Verdict: The Redmi Note 9 Pro is an amazingly balanced phone. The processor is great, the camera is great. So anyone who wants a good phone can opt to go for this one. It is also good for gaming, but the G90T in Realme 6 has a better gaming performance compared to it.

Realme 5 Pro:

Another Realme in the list! Realme must be doing some serious work on their budget segment!

Performance: This Realme device possesses a SnapDragon 712 chip on board., which is not as powerful as the G90T or the 720G but gets the job done smoothly. The 2.3GHz CPU delivers good enough performance in day to day activities and the Adreno 616 GPU assures a good gaming experience.

RAM & Storage: The lowest version packs 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM with 64GB of UFS 2.1 internal storage. It has a dedicated microSD card slot and you can upgrade the storage by up to 256 GB.

Power: It has a 4035mAh battery inside and supports the 20W VOOC flash charge. It has a Type-C port for power delivery.

Display: In the display area, the phone flaunts a beautiful 6.3-inch FHD+ dewdrop screen with a 2340x1080 resolution. The phone has a 90.6% screen to body ratio. The pixel density for the phone is 409ppi, which is impressive.

Camera: Realme 5 Pro packs a quad-camera array at the back. The primary camera is of 48MP Sony IMX 586 sensor with f/1.79 aperture. There is an 8MP wide-angle and a 2MP macro camera in the module. For portrait, the company has packed a 2MP depth sensor as well. In the front, there is a 16MP Sony IMX 471 sensor with an f/2.0 aperture.

Video: The device supports 4K @ 30 fps; 1080p @ 30,60fps; 720p @ 30,60 fps. It also has a slow-motion feature. It can record Slo-mo up to 960fps at 720p resolution; 1080p @120fps. EIS is present in both the front and rear camera, so you can expect stable video output.

Verdict:  Giving a verdict for this phone is very confusing. Because realme already has a very good phone at this price which is better in every way. The only thing that I can say is if you want to buy a Realme device but don't trust Mediatek, then go for it. And also it has Sony sensors for its camera.

Vivo Z1 Pro:

If you don't like Realme or Redmi much then there is a pick from Vivo, the Vivo Z1 Pro. Well, this phone has its ups and downs and can not compete with the top 2 but nevertheless, it is a good phone.

Performance: This phone comes with a Snapdragon 712 SoC, which is decent enough for the price. The CPU has a clock speed of 2.3GHz and the GPU is Adreno 616. What this means is all your general tasks will be a breeze for the phone and you can play PubG at higher settings as well. Even though the gaming performance won't be at par with the former two listed phones.

RAM & STORAGE: This phone has a 4GB RAM & 64GB internal storage in its lowest model. The RAM is LPDDR4x and the Storage is UFS 2.1. You can expand the storage up to 256GB by inserting a microSD card in its dedicated slot.

Power: A huge 5000mAh battery is present in the phone and it supports 18W fast charging. The fast charger is included in the phone.

Display: The Vivo Z1 Pro features a 6.53-inch FHD+ display with a resolution of 2340x1080. It has a 90.77% screen to body ratio. There is no Gorilla Glass protection, instead there is a strengthened 2.5D curved glass.

Camera: This phone packs a triple camera at the rear unlike the quad-camera arrays present in the previous phones. The main camera is a 16MP shooter.  There is an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens as well with a 2MP depth sensor. In the front, it rocks a 32MP punch hole style selfie camera.

Video: This phone can shoot up to 4K @ 30fps and down to 720p @ 30FPS. Keep in mind, there is no stabilization on board, so the videos will be shaky.

Verdict: Even though it has lesser specs than the previous phones, this is not a bad phone. The processor is decent enough. Ram, storage, power segment is decent as well. But the camera is a little off point of this device.

Vivo U20:

This device on the list is not as powerful as the earlier ones. I have added this because it is a decent device at a cheaper price of Rs. 11,990. If your budget is low then you can go for this one or you can refer to this article where I have listed top phones under Rs. 11,000. Let's talk about the Vivo U20.

Performance: The Vivo U20 has a SnapDragon 675 inside which gives a decent performance. The phone won't feel sluggish and you will get decent gaming performance.

RAM & Storage: It has 4GB of LPDDR4x RAM and 64GB of UFS 2.1 internal space. UFS 2.1 at this price is amazing. You can expand the storage by inserting a MicroSD card but it does not have a dedicated slot for it.

Power: Vivo U20 has a huge 5000mAh Li-Poly battery with 18W fast charging support. You won't need to charge the device very often and with the fast charge support it charges quickly too.

Display: It has a 6.53 inch IPS LCD display of 2340x1080 resolution. Which means it is an FHD+ display with pixel density of 395ppi.

Camera: The device has a triple camera setup at the rear. The main camera 16Mp with f/1.8 aperture. There is an 8MP ultra-wide lens and a 2MP macro lens. At the front, it has a 16MP selfie shooter of f/2.0 aperture.

Video: The rear camera supports 2160p @30fps and 1080p @ 30fps. Whereas the selfie camera records video in 1080p resolution at 30fps.

Verdict: This is a decent phone at this price range. But only go for this if you don't have a higher budget. Also don't forget to check this article for top phones under Rs. 11000.

So, these were my picks for the phones under Rs. 15,000. There are some other phones like the Samsung M21 for Samsung lovers at this range. But I strongly oppose this because M21 does not even come close to the listed devices.
